Jetstar extends mobile services and launches mobile in Japan

Leading Australia and Asia Pacific Low Fares Airline, Jetstar, has updated its mobile web site to now include a ‘change flights’ facility on mobile devices, developed by MTT. This innovation is made possible by interfacing MTT’s mobile platform to Jetstar’s Navitaire reservations system.

Jetstar wanted to offer the change flights functionality on mobile devices to give passengers the ability to change flights if they purchased fully flexible fares, JetFlex, or in Jetstar’s premium cabin, StarClass on long haul international services.

Jetstar Mobile allows customers to change their flights using their mobile phone in a matter of moments – ideal when a business traveller has a meeting which finishes early or late, providing additional flexibility within Jetstar’s JetFlex and StarClass products. The mobile site sees tens of thousands of users each month and has seen significant double digit growth month-on-month since it launched in June 2008.

In addition to the change flights facility, Jetstar Mobile allows customers to access live arrival and departure information, information about promotional fares, flight schedules and destination and airport information on more than 3,000 types of mobile device, ranging from PDAs such as BlackBerry down to standard feature phones.

“Jetstar’s new  mobile  site gives  our  customers  the added option and flexibility to change flexible fares and to access flight information quickly and easily via their mobile device, which customers are coming to rely on more and more for every day transactions,” said Mr David Koczkar, Group General Manager Commercial for Jetstar. “Jetstar constantly strives to seek the latest technologies which bring additional benefits to our customers and to lead our field when it comes to championing innovation.”

Jetstar Mobile uses MTT’s intelligent mobile airline platform, m2plane, which allows customers to access the mobile web site via the same Jetstar.com URL. The platform is able to identify customers’ geographical location, automatically directing users in Japan to the Japanese version of the site. Jetstar customers in Japan can also view certain dedicated Japanese content.

For iPhone users in Australia and across Asia Pacific, MTT has developed a web app which enables customers to flick through the mobile site with a finger tap, and a web clip can be added to the home page to bookmark the site for easy access.

Gerry Samuels, Founder and Executive Director, MTT, comments: “MTT is delighted to provide the technology to power Jetstar Mobile. In a tough economic environment for the travel industry, mobile technology is playing an increasing role in new marketing and distribution strategies of major airlines, delivering positive ROIs. As consumers increasingly take advantage of the convenience of mobile to access booking information and make changes on-the-go, airlines with a mobile strategy will see a positive impact on revenue as well as having a customer service advantage.”
